In "Oh, the Places You'll GLOW!" participants will assemble their own IR interactive micro-controlled LED-lit badge. Whew! Lovely glowing objects in their own right, they are also your ticket to a special secret tour of GLOW, Santa Monica's triennial celebration of light and art at the water's edge. Take your finished badge to GLOW (9/28 from 7pm-3am) to receive invisible infrared coded signals transmitted from beacons located at hidden spots throughout the GLOW site. Each coded signal will "unlock" a new badge LED light pattern. The more signals a badge is exposed to, the more vibrant the LED patterns will become. By looking at the badge those "in the know" will be able to see how far into GLOW you've gone! This workshop includes mobile sandblasting, soldering and assembly and explanations of the programming behind the project. Please bring material fee separately in cash to the class.

Naim Busek is well-versed in the intricacies of embedded sensing and control systems and has just completed a Masters Degree in Computer Science at UCLA. Steve Goldstein is an inventor and product designer with twelve patents to his name whose recent Flipbookit project became the second highest funded art project on Kickstarter. Crashspace is a member-supported lab in Culver City that is home to hackers, programmers, builders, makers, artists and people who generally like to break things and see what new things can be built with the pieces. http://blog.crashspace.org
